In his Aeneid<\/strong>, Virgil<\/strong> tells how the hero Aeneas buried his nurse Caieta<\/strong> here, a story later echoed by Dante in the Divine Comedy<\/strong>, when Ulysses<\/strong> says that: “he passed before Aeneas gave her that name<\/strong>“. Gaeta has a very complex history, dating back to the 8th century BC. Four centuries later, the Romans arrived and turned it, together with nearby Formia<\/a><\/strong>, into a residence for important figures.<\/big><\/span><\/p>\n

How to get to Gaeta?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gaeta<\/strong> is a renowned seaside resort and tourist destination in southern Lazio, 130 km from Rome<\/a> and just 90 km<\/strong> from Naples<\/a>, and is located in the heart of the Riviera di Ulisse Regional Park<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The nearest railway station is undoubtedly Formia\"\"<\/a> (Formia-Gaeta FS station)<\/strong>, which can be reached from the railway stations in Naples<\/strong> or Rome<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From Formia to Gaeta<\/strong>, you can also rely on a number of buses<\/a> running approximately every 30 minutes in both directions, making it easy even for those without a car to get around without too much hassle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Another perfectly valid option is to drive, although it is not recommended during the summer months<\/strong>, when Italians traditionally take their holidays and traffic can become particularly heavy on the way to seaside resorts.<\/p>\n

Gaeta is also easy to reach by sea, and its natural inlet is home to some of the best-equipped marinas in the Lazio region.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Getting around the city<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another important point to consider is transportation within the city. Gaeta is a fairly small municipality<\/strong>, so there is no real difficulty in getting around on foot<\/strong> and exploring every corner of this beautiful place.<\/p>\n

In most cases, tourists stay in hotels or holiday homes close to the beach, so getting around is not particularly complicated.<\/p>\n

However, if you would rather not walk too far, you can also use the convenient bus network<\/strong>, which will take you more or less wherever you need to go.<\/p>\n
